Rome. Venice. Florence.
In a nutshell...completely surreal! 4 weeks after arriving home we still find ourselves saying, "Wow, I can't believe we were there...I can't believe how old everything is...". The country is truly remarkable! With its stunning views, inconceivable history, awe inspiring art, (Michelangelo was a busy man), and iconic cuisines, Italy completely lived up to all the hype and expectations. Like usual, we spent our days being tourists; we took pictures of everything, ate as many meals as possible, and collected more children's books...yes, for children we still don't have. ;)
Our top 3 favs- Preface: Seriously, every single day was amazing! Every street, alley, and canal we encountered was gorgeous and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we experienced.
3.) The Colosseum- Couldn't get over the Roman architecture and engineering. Construction began in 72 AD! (what does that even mean???) Couldn't get over that gladiatorial games seriously took place.
2.) The Culture- The laid back aura, self assured personalities, the feeling that people lived to enjoy life-preferably with a glass of wine, a delicious meal, and good company. No rushing to get anywhere or do anything...just existing in a state of simple and happy.
1.) Romantically strolling the country. ♥ We couldn't get enough of just walking around gazing at all the visually stimulating scenery. We slept in every day (best.thing.ever.) but then set foot until all hours of the night taking in the history of the Roman empire, questioning the intricate canals in Venice, and pleasing our taste buds in the countryside of Florence. We made sure to pit stop as often as possible for drinks, desserts, and contemplation.
Completely in love and grateful for the experience,
Val & Jeff
